Michael K. McDonough is an associate in the Litigation practice. He concentrates his practice on commercial litigation and resolving business disputes. He counsels clients on a wide range of business and insurance issues, including matters involving contract disputes, breach of fiduciary duties and various other business torts. Michael has extensive experience in all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, witness preparation, oral arguments and trial.
Michael has experience trying cases in both state and federal court, including trial experience in the Circuit Court of Cook County, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and arbitration proceedings. In addition to his trial experience, Michael has extensive experience with all aspects of complex civil litigation including oral discovery, dispositive motion practice, and representing clients in mediations and court ordered settlement conferences.
Prior to joining Tressler, Michael worked with the Windy City Trial Group, a Chicago-based boutique litigation firm specializing in the representation of small and mid-market businesses.
While in law school, he was a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, working directly with Chief Magistrate Judge Thomas Blewitt. Under Judge Blewitt, Michael authored Report and Recommendations for approval by the District Court on claims arising out of 28 U.S.C. § 1331 and 43 U.S.C. § 1983 complaints. He also served as a law clerk for Chief Administrative Judge, Nick Kuntz, at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas.
While attending the University of Dayton School of Law, Michael was awarded the CALI Award for Excellence in Trial Practice in 2012 and the CALI Award for Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution in 2011. He also served as Co-Captain of the law school’s National Mock Trial Team in 2012-2013. Michael also received the university’s Pro Bono Commitment to Community Award in 2013.
