April 16, 2012 – (Chicago). At No. 294, Tressler LLP has joined the ranks of The National Law Journal’s newly expanded annual law firm survey that identifies the largest 350 legal players in the United States.
In 1978, The National Law Journal published its first list of 200 law firms, and 1983, expanded the list to 250. This year, NLJ launched its biggest ever expansion of the survey, adding 100 additional firms to the list, ranked from No. 251 to No. 350. The annual law firm survey ranks U.S. law firms by headcount and provides detail about their locations, partners, associates and other attorneys.
The new list provides a closer look at the growing midsize law firm market and includes a number of regional players outside the big cities that dominate its traditional NLJ 250 survey.
According to The National Law Journal article reporting on the NLJ 350, the firms ranked No. 251-350 are more geographically diverse when it comes to their largest U.S. offices compared to their NLJ 250 peers. Among the 100 firms on the list, the largest U.S. offices are located in 59 cities. That compares to 64 cities among 250 firms in the positions on the list.
Also, despite the geographic diversity of the firms ranked No. 251-350, NLJ reports that big markets are still strongly represented: Chicago (where Tressler is headquartered) is home to the most firms on the list (eight), followed by New York (six), and Los Angeles and Cleveland (five each). Average headcount among firm’s ranked No. 251-350 is 133 (compared to 505 for the firm’s above No. 250).
With 135 attorneys at the time of the survey was completed, Tressler ranked No. 294. Since the survey was answered, Tressler has absorbed the seven-lawyer firm of Raysa & Zimmermann LLC.
