Hart, Kathleen M. Associate

Practice Focus

Kathleen is an associate in the Insurance Practice Group. She focuses her practice in the areas of insurance coverage analysis and litigation. Kathleen has drafted coverage opinions, position letters, response letters and other insurance-related documents on behalf of insurers. She also has experience in various phases of insurance coverage litigation, including drafting declaratory judgment complaints and dispositive motions as well as appearing for oral arguments, and mediations. Kathleen has handled a wide range of issues involving several types of policies, including general liability, commercial auto, professional liability, advertisers liability, media, directors and officers liability, first party property, homeowners, umbrella, and workers compensation policies, among others. Kathleen has also assisted insurers in fraud investigation claims involving theft and arson and has experience handling UM/UIM claims.

Kathleen also has experience in insurance defense litigation. She has experience in all phases of pre-trial litigation, including drafting pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery, motion in limine, and jury instructions. Kathleen also has experience in conducting depositions, witness preparation, oral argument, mediations, and arbitration. She has experience handling real estate and corporate matters, including drafting deeds, real estate documents, and corporate filings.

Professional Background

Prior to joining Tressler, Kathleen worked for Querrey & Harrow, LLC, where she began her career as a law clerk and later worked as an associate. While at Querrey, Kathleen gained experience in insurance defense litigation, general litigation, corporate law and trust and probate administration.

During her time in law school, Kathleen was on the Dean’s List and was the Managing Editor of The John Marshall Law Review. She was also a member of the Latino Law Student Association and tutored first-year minority students through the school’s Advanced Education Program. Kathleen was also a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Jeffrey Cole, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and a legal intern in the Chicago Park District’s labor and employment department.

Kathleen was selected to the Illinois Super Lawyers® 2023 Illinois Rising Stars list. She was recently selected by her peers in the 2023 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America™.
