Practice Focus

Reginald D. Cloyd III is an associate in the Commercial Litigation and Business Disputes Practice Group.  Reggie has a broad range of experience representing individual and corporate clients in complex litigation matters, insurance coverage, local government and homeowner association matters.

He has advised and defended clients with respect to claims for breach of contract, consumer fraud, negligence, and other torts. Reggie has also worked on intellectual property, bankruptcy, and trust and estate matters. He has experience in all phases of litigation, including drafting and responding to discovery, arguing dispositive motions, and participating in settlement conferences.

Reggie has represented unsecured and secured creditors in Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy matters. Some of his Chapter 7 experience includes negotiating with debtor’s attorney regarding a reaffirmation and/or motion to assume an existing contract. He also has significant knowledge as to the bankruptcy rules and codes with pre-petition and post-petition debts. His Chapter 13 experience includes attending court hearings, drafting an adversary complaint and negotiating with debtors' attorneys regarding payment plans. Reggie also focuses his practice in business litigation and insurance coverage litigation. 

Reggie also works on coverage matters involving environmental, asbestos and other long tail exposures. Moreover, he litigates a variety of homeowner association matters, from injunctions to collections.

Professional Background

Reggie joined Tressler as a law clerk in 2015. As a law clerk, he assisted attorneys with procedural and substantive legal issues in various practice areas, including: insurance coverage, commercial litigation, local government law and employment law. 

Prior to joining Tressler, Reggie served as a Fellow in the City of Chicago Department of Law, Federal Civil Rights Division. While in law school, he served as Production Editor for the Illinois Journal of Law, Technology & Policy and received the Outstanding 3L of the Year from the Black Law Student Association.
