Our trial lawyers have established their reputation in courtrooms around the country. In large cities and small towns our trial lawyers have represented individuals and businesses in complex cases that cannot be resolved in any other manner. We are always mindful of the costs associated with litigation, but we also know that when it becomes necessary to resolve disputes in the courtroom, we have the expertise to provide the skilled advocacy that you require.

Tressler LLP has one of the most experienced and multi-faceted government law practices in Illinois. As local governments are faced with increasingly complex regulatory matters and ever-growing exposure to litigation, we offer a diverse array of talent to serve our clients’ needs. From our Chicago and Bolingbrook offices, our seasoned team is uniquely positioned to represent municipalities, cities, villages, park districts, school districts and other public entities throughout northern Illinois, including Lake, Cook, Will, DuPage, Kane and Grundy counties.

Our experienced local government attorneys understand the broad spectrum of complex issues that our clients face, and are able to provide advice and representation in a wide variety of matters, including:

  • Construction Disputes
  • Ordinances and Regulations
  • Legislative Counseling
  • Intergovernmental Cooperation and Conflict
  • Ethics Compliance
  • Contracts for Services and Equipment
  • Personnel Policies
  • Employment Contracts and Employment Actions
  • Real Estate and Land Use Matters
  • Capital Project Implementation
  • Grant Compliance
  • Constitutional Law Issues

In addition, our attorneys have been involved in drafting legislation and have represented local government entities in state and federal court, including the Illinois Supreme Court.

Unlike our competitors, Tressler has significant talent and experience in critical areas of law that support our government law practice. These include lawyers who focus their practices on bankruptcy, construction/surety litigation, environmental law, insurance, intellectual property, immigration law, and complex real estate and construction litigation, among others.

For decades, Tressler’s government law attorneys have served as in-house and external counsel to a variety of entities. We possess a unique “in their shoes” understanding and appreciation of the problems managers and administrators encounter on a day-to-day basis. We know firsthand that the responsibilities of a municipal counsel require handling numerous sensitive situations, often on short notice and with minimal administrative help. We also know that “one size” representation definitely does not fit all, so we apply our knowledge and experience to provide flexible, practical and timely solutions specific to the government entity we represent.

Recognized for our knowledge in the representation of government entities, members of our practice group are frequently invited to lecture at conferences sponsored by the Illinois Municipal League, the Illinois Municipal League Risk Management Association, the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, Illinois Association of Park Districts, Illinois Association of School Administrators and a myriad of other local government groups. We have also authored books and various chapters in “must-have” handbooks for elected officials and government personnel.

To keep up-to-date with the latest in government law, subscribe to the Local Government Lowdown.

Tressler also represents clients in other practice areas including business transactions, employment, and condominium and common interest community association law, among others.

Tressler emphasizes the importance of recruiting experienced attorneys to join our legal team. We are committed to growth, and consider our lateral hires to be a substantial investment to the firm. We create an environment where our lateral hires feel integrated and comfortable developing their careers. We recruit candidates who share the same firm values, are interested in professional development and have shown strengths in their legal practice. Tressler Aviation Law

Don Machalinski and Linda Schneider, partners at Tressler LLP, obtained a defense verdict in the Circuit Court of Cook County on December 18, 2019 on behalf of Southwest Airlines Co. The Plaintiff alleged that Southwest violated the Air Carrier Access Act by negligently failing to provide a wheelchair to her at Chicago Midway Airport in July 2016, which resulted in her fall. Plaintiff also claimed that Southwest voluntarily undertook a duty to meet her curbside with a wheelchair but failed to do so. The Plaintiff initially sustained a severe shoulder fracture requiring a reverse total shoulder replacement. She then sustained a periprosthetic fracture requiring a second surgery. Following the one-week trial, Plaintiff’s counsel asked the jury to award $3,100,000 to his client. Tressler successfully defended the case by proving that Southwest complied with the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) and that Southwest acted reasonably in assisting the passenger.

“We are proud of this verdict,” said Don Machalinski and Linda Schneider in a recent statement. “We are honored to represent Southwest Airlines. As our Aviation Practice continues to expand, we look forward achieving more great results on behalf of our clients.” Don can be reached at dmachalinski@tresslerllp.com and Linda can be reached at lschneider@tresslerllp.com.
