Role Description

We are seeking a Director of Professional Development to join Tressler LLP in our Chicago, Illinois office. As Director of Professional Development, you will be responsible for firmwide attorney/staff training and professional development initiatives, the administration of the firm’s continuing legal education (CLE) programming, attorney onboarding, and compliance nationwide.

You will serve as the primary point of contact for firm attorneys regarding CLE compliance and accreditation. Responsibilities within this role are not limited to CLE and may include activities related to administration of CE credit. This is a hybrid position in our Chicago office.

Essential job duties include:

  • Design and implement training programs for over 100 lawyers across 10 offices, including staff and paralegals.
  • Develop curricula and assess training materials to support professional growth for attorneys and staff.
  • Manage CLE (Continuing Legal Education) Program, including planning, logistics, and accreditation while staying current on CLE and CE regulatory requirements, rules, and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the ABA MCLE Accreditation team and prepare CLE applications for internal and external client-facing programs.
  • Maintain CLE provider status in Illinois, New York, and California, including maintaining records for year-end reporting.
  • Create internal guidelines for how we manage CLE activity and respond to attorney and staff CLE related questions.
  • Oversee attorney onboarding and integration to ensure a smooth transition into the firm.
  • Track professional organization membership and evaluate requests from attorneys to join professional associations.
  • Evaluate and beta test new technologies for legal research and practice management improvements.
  • Review and manage donation requests to charities and non-profit organizations submitted by attorneys and other firm employees.

Qualifications:

  • Law degree preferred with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in professional development training in a law firm setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to interact in a professional manner with attorneys, staff members, and clients at all levels.
  • Exceptional judgment, flexibility, and professionalism. Demonstrated ability to lead, manage people, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment with professionalism and flexibility.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, set strategic goals, and deliver results efficiently.
  • Knowledge of U.S. CLE/CE rules and requirements, and proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Salary Commensurate with experience $118,000 to $150,000.
