Tressler attorneys Jennifer S. Perdigao and Jihoon Kim of our Los Angeles, California office, and Andrew J. Chan of our San Francisco, California office successfully obtained summary judgment for an aerospace manufacturer and supplier. The plaintiffs initially sued the client and others in Connecticut, claiming an allegedly faulty carburetor caused a 2015 plane crash in New York state. Following jurisdictional dismissals in the Connecticut trial and appellate courts, the plaintiffs sought to add the client in a related California action. The Court held that California’s two-year statute of limitations ran out on the plaintiffs’ claims. The Court further found that the plaintiffs’ claims were not saved by the equitable tolling doctrine, where the plaintiffs’ 11-month delay when adding the client in the California action was not objectively reasonable or subjectively in good faith.

Jennifer S. Perdigao is a partner and Co-Chair of the Aviation and Transportation Practice Group. She is Managing Partner of Tressler’s Los Angeles, California office. Her practice includes insurance coverage and defense as well as non-insurance advisory matters. Jennifer’s insurance coverage experience includes insurance coverage analysis and insurance litigation involving commercial general liability, aviation operations, personal and advertising injury, construction defects, environmental coverage, and professional lines. Jennifer’s defense litigation experience involves a wide range of matters, including the defense of wrongful death, personal injury, and property damage claims arising out of premises, aviation accidents, airport operations, motor vehicle accidents, and products liability.

Andrew J. Chan is a partner in Tressler’s San Francisco, California, office. He focuses his practice on insurance coverage, intellectual property, and labor and employment law. Andrew has extensive experience representing individual and corporate clients and is known for his creative, cost-effective solutions to complex matters. Andrew is a California real estate broker, a certified information privacy professional (CIPP/US), a professional in human resources – California (PHRca), and a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Jihoon Kim is an associate in Tressler’s Labor & Employment Practice Group in the Los Angeles and Orange County, California offices. He advises employers in management-side labor and employment litigation involving discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour claims. Having also established and managed corporate human resource departments, Jihoon has drafted and reviewed personnel policies, employee handbooks, and other employment-related materials and has conducted investigations and counseled employers in connection with a broad array of employee relations issues, including wage and hour, disability leave, and harassment.
