Tressler LLP has one of the most experienced and multi-faceted government law practices in Illinois. As local governments are faced with increasingly complex regulatory matters and ever-growing exposure to litigation, we offer a diverse array of talent to serve our clients’ needs. From our Chicago and Bolingbrook offices, our seasoned team is uniquely positioned to represent municipalities, cities, villages, park districts, school districts and other public entities throughout northern Illinois, including Lake, Cook, Will, DuPage, Kane and Grundy counties.

Our experienced local government attorneys understand the broad spectrum of complex issues that our clients face, and are able to provide advice and representation in a wide variety of matters, including:

  • Construction Disputes
  • Ordinances and Regulations
  • Legislative Counseling
  • Intergovernmental Cooperation and Conflict
  • Ethics Compliance
  • Contracts for Services and Equipment
  • Personnel Policies
  • Employment Contracts and Employment Actions
  • Real Estate and Land Use Matters
  • Capital Project Implementation
  • Grant Compliance
  • Constitutional Law Issues

In addition, our attorneys have been involved in drafting legislation and have represented local government entities in state and federal court, including the Illinois Supreme Court.

Unlike our competitors, Tressler has significant talent and experience in critical areas of law that support our government law practice. These include lawyers who focus their practices on bankruptcy, construction/surety litigation, environmental law, insurance, intellectual property, immigration law, and complex real estate and construction litigation, among others.

For decades, Tressler’s government law attorneys have served as in-house and external counsel to a variety of entities. We possess a unique “in their shoes” understanding and appreciation of the problems managers and administrators encounter on a day-to-day basis. We know firsthand that the responsibilities of a municipal counsel require handling numerous sensitive situations, often on short notice and with minimal administrative help. We also know that “one size” representation definitely does not fit all, so we apply our knowledge and experience to provide flexible, practical and timely solutions specific to the government entity we represent.

Recognized for our knowledge in the representation of government entities, members of our practice group are frequently invited to lecture at conferences sponsored by the Illinois Municipal League, the Illinois Municipal League Risk Management Association, the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, Illinois Association of Park Districts, Illinois Association of School Administrators and a myriad of other local government groups. We have also authored books and various chapters in “must-have” handbooks for elected officials and government personnel.
